The no shouting rule

Most people who ring us are nervous. That is the normal starting point, not a problem to be talked out of. So the first rule here is that nobody shouts in the car. A learner who is braced for a roar is watching the instructor instead of the road, and that is the opposite of what the hour is for.

Our instructors are trained past the minimum the Road Safety Authority asks for, and a good part of that extra training is about reading the person in the driver's seat. Where your hands are. Whether you are checking the mirror or performing a check of the mirror. What you are avoiding.

Everyone arrives with different habits

Nobody turns up blank. People arrive having driven on a farm, or round a car park with a parent, or not at all, or badly for years on a licence from somewhere else. So the first lesson is partly a read: we work out quickly which parts of your driving are fine and which are costing you, and we spend the hour on the second list.

That matters because lessons are not cheap and they are easy to waste. Twelve EDT lessons spent politely redoing what you can already do is twelve lessons you paid for and did not need.

What we will tell you straight

If you are not ready for the test, we will say so, and we will say what specifically is not ready. If you are ready, we will say that too, rather than selling you four more hours. Our instructors were trained by former testers, so "ready" here means ready by the marking sheet, not by feel.

The practical bits

  • We collect you. Home, college or work, anywhere we cover, included in the lesson.
  • Manual or automatic, your choice, same instructors either way.
  • A female instructor if you would rather, just ask when you ring.
  • Lessons one at a time or the full EDT course, whichever suits how you pay.

We are part of RSA School of Motoring, which is why the reviews you will find online are for the school as a whole rather than for Finglas on its own. The instructors behind those reviews are the ones who teach here.
