Essential Driver Training is the 12 lessons every learner has to complete with an RSA-approved instructor before the test. We take them in order, sign the logbook as we go, and tell you straight where you are.

Pretest lessons
Training to pass the test is not the same as learning to drive. We work the roads around the test centre, the manoeuvres the tester will ask for, and the way they grade them. Our instructors were trained by former testers.

Every area we cover can be taught in an automatic, EDT and pretest alike. Worth knowing before you book: an automatic test gives you an automatic-only licence.

Twelve lessons, logged
The Road Safety Authority requires every learner to complete these twelve before sitting the test, in order, with an approved instructor. Your instructor signs each one off in the logbook as you finish it. They are not a suggestion and there is no exemption to apply for.
Between lessons, practise with a qualified driver in the car. The EDT is the structure; the hours you put in around it are what makes the structure stick.

Pretest lessons
Learning to drive and training to pass the test are two different jobs. By the time you have a test date you should already have the skills; what is left is knowing how the day works and how it is marked.
The routes
We work the roads around the centre you have been given, so the junctions and the lane choices are familiar rather than new.
The marking
Our instructors were trained by former testers. You will know which faults are graded, which are fatal, and how many of the rest you can afford.
The day
What the tester will say, in what order, and what they actually want you to show them when they say it. Fewer unknowns, less of the nerves that cause the mistakes.
The car is included, so you can sit the test in the car you trained in.

Do you do automatic driving lessons in Finglas?
Yes, anywhere we cover, for EDT and pretest alike. One thing to know before you book: if you sit the test in an automatic, the licence you get is automatic only.
Can I book a female driving instructor?
Yes. Ask when you ring and we will put you with one of our female instructors for your EDT or your pretest lessons.
Do you collect me, or do I meet you somewhere?
We collect. Pick-up and drop-off from your home, college or work is part of the lesson across every area we cover, so the hour you pay for is an hour of driving.
What is the EDT, and do I have to do it?
Essential Driver Training is 12 lessons the Road Safety Authority requires every learner to complete with an approved instructor before sitting the test. They are logged in a book your instructor signs as you go, and there is no way round them.
