Manual driving lessons Ashtown
In a manual car you learn clutch, gears and hill starts as well as the road itself. It can take a little longer to feel easy, but the licence you get at the end lets you drive any car. Lessons begin around Ashtown and, as your control improves, take in River Road and Castleknock Road. Each new road is added when your instructor sees you are ready for it. A single manual lesson is €53.27, with pick-up and drop-off already in that price.

Automatic driving lessons in Ashtown remove the clutch from the picture, so your attention stays on mirrors, signals and road position. That can suit anyone who found gear changes hard going on a first attempt. The trade-off is the licence: pass in an automatic and you are restricted to automatic cars, recorded as code 78. An automatic lesson is €61.41 and the automatic EDT course is €659.24.

EDT lessons in Ashtown
Before any driving test, every learner permit holder must complete EDT, which stands for Essential Driver Training. It is 12 fixed lessons with an Approved Driving Instructor, and your instructor signs each one off in your logbook as you go through them.
In Ashtown, the train can do some of the work for you. If you commute, we can meet you off the train at Pelletstown station or Ashtown station for each EDT lesson. The manual course is €587.95 and the automatic course €659.24. Some foreign licence holders only need six lessons, so check with us before you book.
What the EDT covers ↗Ashtown, between two test centres
Mulhuddart test centre is 7.4 km by road from Ashtown, about 10 minutes. Finglas is shorter at 5.2 km but takes around 11. With so little between them, pick the one with the earlier date. Killester at 11 km, about 20 minutes, and Raheny at 12.3 km, about 23 minutes, are further out but worth a look if both nearer centres are booked up.
Once you have a date, the pretest lesson gets you ready for that particular centre. You spend an hour on the roads around it, then hire our car for the test, so you sit it in a car you already know well. The pretest costs €183.63 in a manual or €193.81 in an automatic, wherever you are testing.
Ashtown roads you will drive
Your first hours are spent getting comfortable with the car around Ashtown itself. Later, lessons take in Navan Road and Ratoath Road, so you meet a wider mix of junctions and speeds as your skills build. Every lesson is a full hour, which leaves time to warm up near home before heading further out.
Meeting points are easy to arrange here. Your instructor can collect you outside SuperValu on Ashtown Road or at the River Centre, as well as at either of the stations. If a lesson fits better on the way home from work, give us the work address and we will start the hour there instead.
We cover the areas around Ashtown as well. Castleknock is about 2.0 km away in a straight line, and Cabra and Finglas are both about 2.8 km. If someone else in your house wants lessons and spends their day in one of those places, they get the same prices and the same pick-up.

Which test centre should I use from Ashtown?
Mulhuddart and Finglas are both close, at about 10 and 11 minutes by road. Neither has an edge in distance, so we suggest booking whichever offers the sooner date and then doing your pretest there.
Can I be collected from the train in Ashtown?
Yes. If Ashtown station or Navan Road Parkway station suits you better than home, we can meet you there. That pick-up is included in the lesson price, the same as a pick-up from your front door.
Do lessons cost more in Ashtown?
No. One price list covers every area: €53.27 for a manual lesson and €61.41 for an automatic. The 12-lesson EDT course is €587.95 manual or €659.24 automatic, and we never keep your card on file.
I have a foreign licence. Do I need all 12 EDT lessons?
