Meet your instructor at your front door, at Howth Junction and Donaghmede station or outside Donaghmede Shopping Centre. Raheny and Killester test centres are both within 7 minutes by road.
Learning with us from Donaghmede
Driving lessons in Donaghmede start from wherever you will be: home, college, work or the platform you have just stepped off. Here is what each hour gives you.
Pick-up from the station
Coming home by train? We can collect you at Clongriffin station or Bayside station, or from your house or job instead, and the pick-up is always part of the lesson price.
Former testers trained our team
Every instructor is RSA-approved, and each was trained by people who used to carry out driving tests. Dual controls in every car mean you are never handling a problem on your own.
A quiet car
No one in our cars shouts. If nerves are the reason you have put off learning, tell us, and your first lessons in Donaghmede will go at a pace you are comfortable with.
We tell you where you stand
Your instructor will say when you are test ready and when you are not, along with what still needs work. We would rather do that than sell you hours you do not need.
Clutch or no clutch
Manual and automatic lessons are both available from Donaghmede. A manual pass licenses you for both kinds of car, but an automatic pass gives a code 78 licence, automatics only.
Request a female instructor
Prefer a woman in the passenger seat? Ask when you book, and we will match you with a female instructor for your EDT, your pretest or any single lesson.

Manual driving lessons Donaghmede
A manual car takes more practice at first, mainly because of the clutch. Your early lessons in Donaghmede focus on moving off, stopping and changing gear without looking down. As you progress, you will drive on Grange Road and Kilbarrack Road, practising junctions, lane position and reading the road ahead. Later lessons move toward the roads around Raheny or Killester, depending on which test centre you choose. A single manual lesson is €53.27, and the manual EDT course is €587.95.
Book manual lessons ↗Automatic driving lessons Donaghmede
If you would rather skip the clutch, automatic driving lessons in Donaghmede let you concentrate on mirrors, signals and where the car sits on the road. Plenty of people pick automatic for exactly that reason. The catch is the licence: pass in an automatic and you get code 78, which covers automatic cars only. Each automatic lesson is €61.41, and the automatic EDT course is €659.24.

EDT lessons in Donaghmede
Before you can sit a driving test, you need to complete Essential Driver Training, which is 12 set lessons with an Approved Driving Instructor. Your logbook gets a signature after each one. From Donaghmede, every one of those lessons includes pick-up and drop-off, whether we meet you at home or at a station.
Some foreign licence holders qualify for a reduced course of six lessons instead. To get started at all, pass your theory test, then get your learner permit from the NDLS, then fill in our form or ring 01 902 3100. We match you with an instructor and your first EDT lesson can be arranged from there.
What the EDT covers ↗Donaghmede's nearest test centres
Raheny test centre is your nearest, 3 km and about 6 minutes by road. Killester is 4 km away, around 7 minutes. Having both so close means that if one has no dates for a while, the other may have something sooner. Finglas is 11.3 km and about 17 minutes away, and Churchtown is 17.1 km, roughly 30 minutes, if you need a fallback.
A pretest lesson is an hour driving the routes near your test centre. Its price includes car hire for the test, so you sit the test in the very car you practised in, with nothing unfamiliar about the controls. For a manual car that comes to €183.63, and for an automatic €193.81, with your pick-up in Donaghmede included.
Learning on Donaghmede's roads
You will start on the roads close to your pick-up point, where you can find your feet. Over the following weeks, lessons take in Grange Road and Kilbarrack Road, and then Coast Road and Malahide Road as your skills come together. Each new road is added once your instructor sees you handling the last one with confidence.
Donaghmede Shopping Centre is an easy place to meet if home does not suit, and we can drop you back there at the end of the hour. Students at Saint Nessan's Community School can be collected after school. Your driving instructor in Donaghmede will agree the meeting point with you when the lesson is booked, so there is no waiting around.
Raheny is the nearest area to Donaghmede, about 1.8 km away, with Coolock around 2.5 km. If you move to either one partway through your lessons, nothing has to start again. Your signed logbook entries come with you, the next lesson can begin from the new address, and the price stays exactly as it was. Both areas have their own pages on this site.

The EDT: a guide
Your EDT logbook fills up one signature at a time, and all 12 have to be there before you can sit the test. Hold on to it between lessons and hand it to your instructor at the end of each hour. Once it is complete and you are booked in at Raheny or Killester, the pretest lesson is the last piece.
What we teach ↗ All lesson prices ↗A few good questions.
Can you collect me from Howth Junction and Donaghmede station?
Yes. Pick-up from a station, from home, from college or from work is included in the lesson price. Give us the time your train gets in when you book and your instructor will be there to meet you.
I have a foreign licence. How many EDT lessons do I need?
Holders of some foreign licences qualify for a reduced EDT course of six lessons rather than 12. Call 01 902 3100 with your licence details and we will check which course applies before you book anything.
Which test centre should I pick from Donaghmede?
Raheny is the closest at about 6 minutes, with Killester about 7 minutes away. Choose the one with the earlier date. Your pretest lesson then covers the routes around that centre, and you take the test in the same car.
How do I pay for lessons?
You can pay online or by phone. There is no booking fee and we never keep a card on file. Prices are the same in Donaghmede as everywhere else we cover, starting at €53.27 for a single manual lesson.
