Driving lessonsKillester
Killester has its own driving test centre, about 2 minutes by road, so a lot of your practice can happen on the roads you will be tested near. Pick-up is part of every lesson.
What Killester learners get from us
Taking driving lessons in Killester means the test centre is barely a kilometre from home. Every point below is built around making that short distance count.
We come to you
Start your hour at home, at work or at Killester station, and finish it wherever suits you. Pick-up and drop-off cost nothing extra, because they are built into the lesson price.
Taught by approved instructors
Our instructors are RSA-approved and were trained by former driving testers, so they teach with the test in mind from day one. Every car they use has dual controls.
Calm from the first lesson
If you are nervous, know that nobody will shout at you. We start gently around Killester and only add Sybil Hill Road or Collins Avenue East when you feel settled behind the wheel.
Ready when you are ready
Living this close to a test centre, it is tempting to book early. We tell you honestly where you stand and what is still missing, and we never add hours for the sake of it.
Two gearboxes, two licences
Learn in a manual and your full licence covers manual and automatic cars. Learn in an automatic and it carries code 78, which limits you to driving automatics.
Ask for a female instructor
Some Killester learners would rather learn with a woman, and that is no problem at all. Mention it when you book and we will match you with a female instructor.

Manual driving lessons Killester
In a manual, the early lessons in Killester are all about the clutch: finding the bite, holding the car steady and moving off without a jolt. Once that feels natural, lessons take in Howth Road and Clontarf Road, where you practise gear changes, mirror checks and planning ahead at junctions. Because the Killester test centre is so close, your later manual lessons can run on the roads around it, so very little feels new on the day. A manual pass also lets you drive an automatic.
Book manual lessons ↗Automatic driving lessons Killester
Automatic driving lessons in Killester are a good fit if the clutch has put you off, or if you only ever plan to drive an automatic car. Without gears to manage, you spend the lesson on steering, observation and road position. Remember the licence rule: an automatic pass carries code 78, so your licence will be for automatic cars only. A single automatic lesson costs €61.41, and pretest with car hire in an automatic is €193.81.

EDT lessons in Killester
Essential Driver Training is the set of 12 lessons every learner permit holder completes with an Approved Driving Instructor before the test. Your instructor signs each lesson off in your logbook as you finish it. For a Killester learner, the full course costs €587.95 in a manual or €659.24 in an automatic, with pick-up included every time.
Holding a licence from certain other countries can bring that down to a reduced course of six lessons. Ask us when you get in touch and we will tell you which version applies to you. After that, each EDT lesson can begin at your door or at Clontarf Road station.
What the EDT covers ↗The test centre on your doorstep
Killester test centre is 1 km from the area, about 2 minutes by road. Raheny test centre is 2.3 km and around 5 minutes away, which gives you a real choice: if one has a long wait, the other may have an earlier date. Beyond those, Finglas is 7.1 km and roughly 13 minutes away, and Mulhuddart (Maple House) is 11.9 km, around 20 minutes.
A pretest lesson is one hour on the routes around the centre you are booked into, and it comes with car hire for the test. You then sit the test in the same car you practised in. In a manual that costs €183.63, in an automatic €193.81. As with any lesson, your instructor collects you from home in Killester first.
Killester roads you will learn on
Your first hours are spent near wherever we collect you, getting used to the controls. As your skills grow, you will drive on Collins Avenue East and Sybil Hill Road, and later on Howth Road, building the confidence you need for test day. When to move on is decided lesson by lesson, based on how the previous one went.
We can meet you at Killester station if that is easier than meeting at home, for example on your way back from work. Students at Ardscoil Rís can be collected after class and dropped home or anywhere else nearby at the end of the hour. Let us know the place when you book, and the instructor will be waiting there.
Artane, about 1.3 km away, and Coolock, around 2.1 km, are the closest areas to Killester. If a friend or a brother or sister in either place wants to learn too, they get the same calm lessons, the same included pick-up and the same prices you do. You will find a page for each on this site, with the test centres and drive times from there.
