Why learn to drive in Artane
Choosing a driving school in Artane? Living this close to two test centres is an advantage, and we plan your lessons around it.
Pick-up anywhere you need
We collect you at home in Artane, at Ardscoil La Salle, at work or at Harmonstown station, and bring you back after. That is included, so the hour you pay for is all driving.
Trained by ex-testers
Our instructors are RSA Approved Driving Instructors, trained by former driving testers. With Killester so near, they can take you onto its roads well before test day, in a dual-controlled car.
Lessons without stress
Nobody shouts at you in our cars, ever. Nervous learners in Artane get a steady, patient lesson where questions are welcome and mistakes are simply part of learning.
An honest verdict
When you are ready for Killester or Raheny, we tell you. When you are not, we tell you what to work on, and we do not pad out your hours.
Two gearboxes, two licences
We teach manual and automatic in Artane. Pass in a manual and you may drive both. Pass in an automatic and code 78 restricts you to automatic cars.
Ask for who you want
We match you with an instructor who suits you. If you would feel more comfortable learning with a woman, a female instructor is available on request.

Manual driving lessons Artane
A manual lesson in Artane starts with the clutch and the gears, often on short loops near where you were collected. As things settle, lessons take in Tonlegee Road and Collins Avenue East, and later the Malahide Road and Howth Road. Holding a manual licence means you can drive any car, manual or automatic, so you keep every option open. Lessons are €53.27 each, and the 12-lesson manual EDT is €587.95.
Book manual lessons ↗Automatic driving lessons Artane
Choosing automatic driving lessons in Artane takes gear changes off your plate, leaving you free to watch junctions, signals and other road users. Pick-up, EDT and pretest all work the same as in a manual. The one thing to weigh up is that code 78 goes on an automatic licence, so it only covers automatic cars. Automatic lessons cost €61.41 each.

EDT lessons in Artane
Essential Driver Training, EDT for short, means 12 set lessons that every learner permit holder must complete with an Approved Driving Instructor before sitting the test, and each lesson is signed off in a logbook. If you hold certain foreign licences, a reduced course of six lessons may apply.
Because Killester is so close to Artane, your later EDT lessons can spend time on the roads around it without a long drive first. That leaves more of each hour for practice that counts toward the test. The manual EDT course costs €587.95, and the automatic course €659.24.
What the EDT covers ↗Killester and Raheny on your doorstep
From Artane, Killester test centre is 1.4 km by road, about 3 minutes. Raheny is 2.5 km, about 5 minutes. Finglas is further at 7.3 km and around 13 minutes, and Mulhuddart (Maple House) is 12.1 km, around 20 minutes. If Killester and Raheny have no date soon, one of the other two may have an earlier slot.
The pretest lesson is an hour on the routes around your centre, with car hire for the test included, so you sit it in the car you know. Living this close, you may already know some of those roads from your normal lessons, so the pretest becomes a final polish rather than a first look. It is €183.63 for manual and €193.81 for automatic.
Lessons on Artane's roads
Lessons in Artane usually start from home, but Northside Shopping Centre or Clarehall Shopping Centre make easy meeting points if that suits you better. The first hours go on getting comfortable with the car itself, at a pace set by you, before you move on to longer drives with more to think about.
As you progress, lessons take in Tonlegee Road and Collins Avenue East, and in time the Howth Road. If you come by train, Raheny station works well as a pick-up point. Students can also be collected from Ardscoil Rís or St. Paul's College, with a drop-off at home once the hour is up.
If home is not the easiest place to start, Saint Gabriel's Community Centre or Ayrfield Community Centre can serve as a pick-up point instead. Coolock, under a kilometre away, and Beaumont have pages of their own on this site as well. Whatever area you start from, the price of a lesson does not change.

The EDT: a guide
Your EDT logbook goes with you to every lesson, and your instructor signs each one off once it is complete. By the twelfth signature, you may well have driven the roads near Killester more than once, which makes the pretest feel familiar rather than new. Do not lose it, as the test cannot go ahead without a finished logbook.
