Driving lessonsSwords
Your instructor collects you at home, at school or at work in Swords, and the full hour is spent behind the wheel. Every test centre is a drive away from here, so we plan for it from the start.
Why learners in Swords book with us
Our driving lessons in Swords begin at your front door and finish there too. Because every test centre is at least 16 minutes away by road, we build the test drive into your plan early.
Collected from your door
We pick you up at home, at Loreto College or at your work in Swords and drop you back after. That is part of the price, so the full hour goes on driving.
Approved and properly trained
Lessons are with an RSA Approved Driving Instructor, taught to teach by people who once examined learners on the test. You learn in a dual-controlled car, so a slip on the Swords Bypass stays a small one.
Calm from the first lesson
Our instructors keep their voices down. If you are nervous, we start where you feel steady and build up at your own pace, with the dual controls there as a backstop.
Straight answers on readiness
We tell you plainly when you are ready to book and when you are not, and what still needs work. We do not stretch lessons out to sell you more hours.
Manual or automatic
Both are on offer in Swords, for EDT and pretest alike. A pass in a manual lets you drive either type, but a pass in an automatic covers automatic cars only.
Pick who teaches you
Tell us what suits you and we match you with an instructor to fit. If you would prefer to learn with a woman, ask for a female instructor when you get in touch.

Manual driving lessons Swords
Manual lessons in Swords start close to home, on roads your instructor picks for a first go at the clutch, the gears and hill starts. Once moving off feels natural, lessons take in Main Street, and later the Swords Bypass, where you practise holding a steady speed and judging when to go. A manual pass covers both gearbox types, so it is the wider licence to hold if you are not sure what you will drive in future. A single manual lesson costs €53.27, and the 12-lesson manual EDT course is €587.95.
Book manual lessons ↗Automatic driving lessons Swords
An automatic takes the clutch and gears out of the job, so your attention stays on the road, your mirrors and your position. Our automatic driving lessons in Swords run from your door just like the manual ones, at €61.41 for a single lesson. Before you choose, know the catch: an automatic pass carries code 78 on your licence, which means it does not cover manual cars.

EDT lessons in Swords
EDT is the 12-lesson course the RSA requires before you can sit your test. You need a learner permit first, and each lesson must be with an Approved Driving Instructor, who signs your logbook once it is done. If you hold certain foreign licences, you may only need six.
From Swords, the later EDT lessons can head out toward the test centre you plan to use. That way, by lesson twelve you have driven some of the roads you will meet on test day, not only the ones near home. The full manual course is €587.95 and the automatic one is €659.24.
What the EDT covers ↗Picking a test centre from Swords
No test centre is close to Swords, so the choice is wider than it looks. Finglas is 12.7 km by road, about 16 minutes. Killester is 13.3 km, also about 16 minutes. Mulhuddart (Maple House) is 12.8 km and around 18 minutes, and Raheny is 13.9 km, around 18 minutes. With all four this close in time, book whichever gives you the earliest date.
Unless you already drive near one of them, the routes will be new to you, so the pretest lesson matters more from Swords than from most places. It is an hour on the roads around your chosen centre, plus the car for the test itself, so you sit it in the car you practised in. It costs €183.63 in a manual or €193.81 in an automatic.
Learning on Swords roads
Early lessons stay close to home in Swords. Your instructor can meet you at Swords Shopping Centre or The Plaza if either is easier than your house, and the first hours go on moving off, stopping and turning at junctions. Nothing gets rushed, and you only move on when the basics come without thinking.
As you progress, lessons take in the Malahide Road and the Naul Road, which give you longer stretches to practise speed, mirrors and planning ahead. Students can be collected from Fingal Community College or Colaiste Choilm Swords when class is over, then dropped home. You will not need a lift to reach the car at any stage.
The closest areas with their own pages on this site are Santry, 6.7 km away, and Ballymun, 7.4 km, so neither is next door. If your college or job is in one of them, mention it when you book and we can talk about collecting you there. Otherwise, everything on this page is worked out from Swords itself.

The EDT: a guide
Keep your logbook in the car with you. After each EDT lesson your instructor signs it and notes what you covered, so you can see what is done and what is left. From Swords, that record also helps the two of you decide when it is worth booking the pretest at whichever centre has the earliest date.
